For the past 20 years Evergreen Philharmonic has produced a CD!
With the help of our recording engineer, Drew Cady of Seismic Island Labs, this has been an annual project that has resulted in a CD to sell, as well as a way to document the evolution of the orchestra.
In the early years we recorded in the music room at Issaquah High, but we quickly moved to acoustically better venues. For the past three years we have been pleased to record in the new Performing Arts Center at Issaquah High School.
The annual CD is often a 2 CD set, and is meant to give a representative sample of the music we performed during the year. The orchestra students vote for which pieces they want to record, and we usually use two or three fairly long sessions at the end of the year to accomplish the recording.
Following the recording sessions, Mr. Longman and Mr. Cady spend quite a number of hours editing before the master goes to duplication. Normally, the finished product is available August 1, and it is typical to order several runs in the late summer and fall to meet demand.
For some students this might be their only recording experience, but for others, it serves as training for what can be some of the most lucrative work a musician can do.
